Women's Cross Country: Knights Prepping for 2018

Baltimore County, MD -- CCBC Essex women's cross country is building off its strong performance at last season's conference and regional meets and is doing so with the return of Sabrina Lepus, Marisa Hernandez and Angela Johnson to anchor the squad.

The ladies finished third in the NJCAA Region XX championship in 2017, beating Baltimore City Community College by one point and finished 4th in the Maryland Juco championship, six points off Baltimore City for the runner up spot.

With Lepus, Hernandez and Johnson, the women's team is returning three of its five competitors from last year.

Lepus did not start running or join the team until mid August and has dealt with injuries three of her last four cross country seasons. In spite of that she was still a top 15 finisher in Maryland Juco and Region XX championships. Lepus hopes after training hard this summer she can be an All-Region XX and All-Maryland Juco competitor and finish in the top five of both championships.

Hernandez joined the team late last season and had never participated in cross country. She hopes to build off her performance from last year, drop minutes off her 5k time and finish in the top 20 of the Maryland Juco and Region XX championships in 2018.

Johnson had a strong freshman season, finishing in the top 20 in Maryland Juco and Region XX and hopes to duplicate her results.

"The women's cross country team will be larger and much more competitive this season," said head coach Noah Hutton. "But we are still looking for interested athletes to compete in the fall. We have scholarships available."

Anyone who is interested should contact Hutton at knightscrosscountry@ccbcmd.edu.
