Baltimore County, Md. – March 12, 2019 -- Community College of Baltimore County Essex Athletics today announced that it has partnered with Lace Up With LAX for a second consecutive season and will hold a fundraiser on April 6, 2019, during its men's and women's lacrosse games against Potomac State College of West Virginia University, to collect new children's shoes to be donated to Empower4Life, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that organizes and operates resource drives to deliver material goods to homeless shelters in and around Baltimore County, Maryland.

The men's and women's lacrosse teams will host Potomac State, beginning with the women at 12 p.m. and the men at 2 p.m. Catamounts' head lacrosse coach Josh Seese has confirmed they will also take part in the fundraising efforts.

Donations can be made at the gate or by contacting Rocco Geppi at rgeppi@ccbcmd.edu to make other arrangements. Cash donations will also be accepted and will be used to purchase children's shoes.

"We are excited to partner with Lace Up With LAX and Empower4Life this season in an effort to help better the lives of youth in our community," said CCBC Essex Athletic Operations Assistant Rocco Geppi. "Both organizations have such strong mission statements, centered around helping children succeed. It is truly an honor to be part of such determination."

A 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, Lace Up With LAX is dedicated to ending homelessness around the country. They believe in defining the legacy of lacrosse players off the field by working to provide children who are homeless a new pair of shoes and, in turn, a step toward a brighter future. More information can be found by visiting their website at http://www.laceupwithlax.org/.

"On the field, lacrosse teams are all rivals.  Off the field, we have found a way for lacrosse teams around the country to come together to achieve the same goal," said Lace up with LAX president and founder Melissa J. Rose.  "Lace Up With LAX, in its 7th year, partners with lacrosse teams across the country to help provide new shoes to children in homeless shelters. We continue to be overwhelmed by the generosity of the players, families, fans and community as our annual goals are always surpassed."

Empower4Life was created in May 2015 and is the brain-child of Jennifer Cox. She began volunteering at a local homeless shelter the previous year after observing many disadvantages faced by children coming from turbulent life situations.

"We are very grateful to have the opportunity to partner with CCBC Essex Athletics and Lace Up With Lax," said Cox, who is not only the founder, but serves as president and executive director of the board. "These donations will allow us to implement our health and wellness programs to local homeless children in an effort to teach them skills to be healthy and productive in school, and empowered to overcome challenges."
