Knights Win 11th Straight Behind Anumgba's Consecutive 30-Point Effort
By Devon Douglas
North East, Md. – No. 8 ranked CCBC Essex defeated Niagara County Community College 89-51 last Saturday at Cecil College, improving to 11-0 this season.
Freshman guard Patricia Anumgba (Silver Spring, Md.) continued to have an amazing weekend, finishing with a game-high 31 points on 16-35 shooting.
Sophomore guard Jaelyn Swann (Elkridge, Md.) had a challenging time scoring in the first half, however, she flipped that narrative in the third quarter, scoring nine points going 3-for-5 from behind the arc.
Swann carried the momentum into the final quarter and ended the night with 15 points, four rebounds, and a block.
From tip-off, the Knights (11-0) began the game slowly failing to make any shots and allowing the Thunderwolves (8-3) to find opportunities. It was not until the last four minutes of the first quarter that they began to gain momentum.
Kendal Haggerty (Frederick, Md.) checked into the game and made an impact immediately, going 3-for-3 from deep, helping the Knights end the first on an 11-0 run.
The two teams traded blows in the second, in what would prove to be the lowest scoring quarter of the night.
Despite scoring just 15 points in the second frame, the Knights held a 41-21 lead into halftime.
The beginning of the second half was a struggle for both teams.
CCBC Essex began to return to form in the third quarter, doubling its second quarter output.
Anumgba scored 12 of her 31 points in the third on 4-7 shooting, including hitting both of her three-point attempts.
Swann added nine points in the third quarter, going 3-for-5 from three.
The Knights finally carried momentum throughout the majority of the game.
Despite low shooting percentages from both teams in the final quarter, the Knights shifted their high energy from the third quarter and maximized it to force eight turnovers and earn them the victory.
