Women's Lacrosse: Knights Spoil Cougars Season, Home Opener

Batavia, N.Y. -- CCBC Essex won its second road game of the season today, as the Knights bested Genesee 17-7 in the Cougars season opener.

The Knights (2-2) outscored the Cougars 9-2 in the second half and held Genesee scoreless over the final 19:43 of the game. 

Madison D'Amico (Perry Hall) led the Knights with five goals, followed by Jade Joyce (Loch Raven) with four and Emily Dutton (Sparrows Point) with three.

Alex Strohman (Concordia Prep) added two goals and two assists, while Mikayla Boyle (Eastern Tech), Courtney Jacobs (Patapsco) and Bailey D'Amico (Perry Hall) had a goal each. 

CCBC Essex struck first on a Madison D'Amico goal just 2:45 into the game. 

The Knights would net five goals before the Cougars got on the board with 11:02 remaining in the half. 

Genesee would score four of the last five goals in the first half, but trailed 8-5 into halftime.

The Cougars pulled to within two at 9-7, as they scored two of the first three in the second half. 

Essex then shut the door and did not allow another goal, scoring the game's last eight goals. 

Freshman goalie Mackenzie Cullings made seven saves and Madison D'Amico led the team with six ground balls.

Bailey D'Amico and Strohman added four ground balls each.

The Knights travel tomorrow to Buffalo, N.Y. to take of Erie Community College. First draw is scheduled for 11 a.m.
