Brian Farrell Retires

Brian Farrell Retires

Catonsville, MD – After 32 successful years at CCBC, the first college-wide CCBC Director of Athletics, Brian Farrell, retired July, 2022.

Mr. Farrell served as the CCBC Catonsville Director of Athletics (1993-2003) prior to being hired as the Director of College Athletics (2003-2022). Brian was inducted into the 2016 Hall of Fame which you can see his many accomplishments' below:

Not only is Mr. Farrell a hard worker, but a friend as well. Some of his CCBC family expressed their heartfelt memories and goodbyes:

Rob Hess, Department Chair of Wellness, says the following: "Brian and I had the opportunity to grow up at Catonsville Community College and now CCBC. We have the distinct honor of being two of the worse interviewers (told to us by Buck Workman and Gary Keedy) but we still got the job. As a young Athletic Trainer, I had the great opportunity to work closely with Brian. He is always willing to assist and this is something that has not changed over the past 28 years. Our families have grown close over the years which enables us to watch our sons grow up (Thanks to Jeanette and Kristy) with the great distinction that neither of us had to grow up. Brian has been a strong fixture at Catonsville Community College and CCBC but as all good stories have an end of one chapter and the beginning of another, Brian is now just finishing a 30+ year chapter with an introduction of another new and exciting chapter titled "retirement."

Katelyn Dibble, Athletics Operations Assistant/Sports Information – "I've known the big scary boss, Mr. Farrell, since I was 6 years old. I was a camper at Camp heritage and my aunt worked in the office. I would go up to see her sometimes and he would always say hello; I hope I said hello back then too but probably just quietly smiled and waved. When I was 16 years old, that same scary man asked me what I wanted to do with my life.  I told him, I didn't know, I just like to draw; probably something with art? He was the first person to encourage me into a life of athletics, and I couldn't be more thankful for that. He's been one of my biggest supporters for the past 13 years leading me further and further into athletics. Turns out, he wasn't so scary. Instead, he became a great family friend.  I will feel his absence dearly at CCBC. Enjoy your well-deserved retirement Mr. Farrell!"

Melissa Miller, Athletic Director, CCBC Catonsville – "Brian Farrell's retirement is bittersweet. No one has earned or deserves this milestone in his career more than him, but we will all miss his presence dearly. He has been an icon of athletics not only at CCBC, but within the MD JUCO Conference, Region 20 and the NJCAA. Brian would downplay most of what people will say about him and his career because of his humility, but it is truly hard to express in words what his impact has been, not just on CCBC Athletics, but on the countless lives of his many student-athletes, coaches, staff, peers, community members, campers, and mentees. His years of knowledge and expertise leaves a void, but we will do our best to continue the good work he has laid out for us within CCBC Athletics. Thank you Brian Farrell for everything you have done for CCBC, for being my mentor and my friend."

Greg Witkop, Athletic Director, CCBC Essex – "Brian has been a tremendous supervisor, supporter, mentor, and friend of mine for the past 11 years, he has a tremendous passion for CCBC athletics and his greatest strength is how he treats people, from those who he works with to those that he serves. He is 100% all class all of the time and the organization that he has developed over 30+ years shows this special trait."

Leslie Wray, Athletic Director, CCBC Dundalk – "During my 20 plus years in intercollegiate athletics, I have never met a more diligent, thoughtful and encouraging athletic leader than in Brian Farrell. He has a natural ability to see the good in people and bring out their best.  I have thoroughly enjoyed working with him and will miss his insight and well-articulated emails and conversations. As we start this new chapter of CCBC Athletics, I know Brian's legacy of compassion, hard work and perseverance will be with this department for many years to come."

Terri Booth, Athletic Administrator, CCBC Catonsville – "Brian, Congratulations and best wishes as you begin your retirement! It has been my absolute pleasure and I am truly blessed to have worked for an individual with the caliber of professionalism you have shown me over the last 26 years. I will always treasure the confidence and trust you have had in me, and most of all our friendship. God Bless You!"

Thank you Brian for your years of service and dedication to the college and CCBC Athletics over your career. Enjoy your well-earned retirement!
