Men's Soccer: Iguidre’s Three Goals Lead Knights Past Seahawks

By Jordan Ganzermiller

ROSEDALE, Md. -- Yassine Iguidre netted a hat trick on Tuesday night as the Knights beat the Cecil College Seahawks 8-0 at CCBC Essex Stadium.

Iguidre (Dundalk) matched his goal scoring output from last season and now has eight goals to go with six assists in his Knights' career.

Though the Knights (10-5, 9-1 Maryland Juco) dominated the entire game, they nearly conceded the first goal off of a mistake.

In the 20th minute, the Seahawks played a long ball over the Knight's defense and there was no chance of a Seahawk getting on the end of it.

As sophomore goalkeeper Trevor Brookhart (Liberty) came out to collect the ball, freshman Nathan Nocar (Eastern Technical) passed the ball towards the goal. It almost rolled in, but was collected by freshman Javon Dawkins (Parkville) before it crossed the line.

The Knights finally broke through in the 28th minute, as freshman Bailey Lyons (Easton) played a ball over the top of the Seahawk defense.

Iguidre got a foot on it and chipped it over the goalkeeper just before he grabbed it.

In the 39th minute, Kiarash Livani (Solna) scored his third goal of the season.

Javier Avetrani (Oakland Mills) took a corner, which was headed out by a Seahawks defender. The ball bounced once and Livani tucked it away with a half volley from the penalty spot.

Iguidre netted his second goal of the game two minutes later.

While in possession, he jostled with a Seahawks defender until he finally broke free. He unleashed a shot from the left corner of the box which bounced once and slipped past the Seahawks' goalkeeper.

At the end of the first half, the Knights led 3-0, but failed to capitalize on a lot of the chances.

In the second half, CCBC Essex looked much better offensively and made the most of their chances.

In the 57th minute, freshman Nehemiah Crawford (Baltimore City College) increased the lead to four.

Sophomore Storm Robinson (Our Lady of Mt. Carmel) intercepted a pass deep in the Seahawks box. He took a touch and played the ball in front of Crawford who finished with a sliding shot in the lower right-hand corner.

Crawford leads the team with 12 goals and 29 points, which rank tied for third and second in the Maryland Juco Athletic Conference.

In the 57th minute, the two goal scorers from the first half linked up to claim the Knights' fifth.

Livani threaded a through ball between two defenders and Iguidre had nothing but open space in front of him. He took a few touches before finishing with a left-footed shot just inside the far post.

This goal was the result of some impressive passing, which the Knights could not seem to find in the first half.

"[Our coaches] told us to play easier and quicker, and try to roll the ball around," Livani said. So that's why spaces opened up."

The goal also completed Iguidre's hat trick.

"It felt great," Iguidre said. "It boosted up my confidence a little bit. Especially coming off the bench, it gets the team going."

The last goal scored by the Knights came in the 68th minute.

Freshman Luis Vazquez (Sussex Technical) took a shot which was spilled by the goalkeeper right to the feet of freshman Cameron Schnaack (Redeemer Classical Christian). Schnaack made no mistake and from six yards tapped the ball into the net.

The remainder of the scoring came from two own goals by the Seahawks.

On both occasions, the Knights played a cross into the box and a Seahawks defender placed the ball into the back of the net when attempting to clear.

Knights' Notes

In the Knights' last six games, they've allowed just one goal, which was against Montgomery College last Thursday.

In those same games, the Knights have scored 39 goals.

The Knights look to ride this incredible steak when they head to Wye Mills, Md. to take on Chesapeake College (1-8) tomorrow at 4:00 p.m.

On Saturday, Mercer County Community College comes to Baltimore, as CCBC Essex plays host at Patterson Park for a special event to celebrate the history of Knights men's soccer.

Many CCBC Essex men's soccer alumni will be in attendance for the game, which is scheduled for 5 p.m. Admission is $5, children 12 and under, as well as alumni are free.
