Men's Soccer: Knights Ground Fighting Owls with 4-0 Win, Regain Conference Lead

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD -- The Knights defeated Harford Community College 4-0 last night, as sophomore Maycol Nunez (Washington-Lee) led the way with two goals in a victory that propelled his team back into conference title contention.

Freshmen Clement Blamo Jr. (Dundalk) Edwin Navas (Reading) each had one goal.

How It Went Down

• In the first six minutes, Blamo Jr. scored the Knights' first goal — his eighth goal of the season – assisted by Guzman-Hernandez.
• Two minutes later, freshman Jake Dengler's shot on a set piece went high, as the Knights continued to test the Fighting Owls' keeper Dylan Cushner.
• At 23:49, sophomore Gaige Robinson (Perry Hall) looked to add to the Knights' lead, but his shot went wide left.
• At 42:53, the Fighting Owl's Antonio Savi put a shot on goal, but freshman Kyle Cooper (Calvert Hall) made the save.
• With five seconds left in the first half, Nunez's shot went just wide left of the net and the Knights took a 1-0 lead into the break.
• In the first 10 minutes of the second half, the Fighting Owl's Savi attempted to get Harford on the board. His first shot was wide left and the second was saved by Cooper. It would be the Fighting Owls' last real opportunity in the game, as the Knights took control.
• In the 58^th minute, Navas scored the Knight's second goal, his fifth goal of the season.
• Twelve minutes later, at 69:06, Nunez scored his fourth goal of the season. He dribbled in the box passed several Fighting Owls' defenders and beat Cushner with ease.
• At 75:51, Nunez scored his second of the game to cap the Knights' scoring.

"Clement [Blamo] played me a through ball, then I went pass three defenders," Nunez said of his first goal. "I was confident today, because I was injured this whole season. Today, my ankle [felt good] and I told coach Fiedler I was feeling good. So I just had a feeling." 

"The game was fabulous," said head coach Joe Fiedler. "We finally put together 90 minutes [of really good] soccer. Everybody played well. We won a lot of balls and we moved the ball very quickly. We only had about ten minutes of not so good play, but overall we played really well tonight."

"We didn't have focus in some of our recent games," said Fiedler. "Tonight we had focus. We had a lot of focus; I'm really happy. I had a lot of players that played very well today. We finally just came together as a team. Hopefully we keep it going."

The Knights will hit the road to play against Monroe College, the No. 2 ranked team in the nation, in Bronx. N.Y. tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. Then on Sunday, the Knights head to Pemberton, N.J. to face Rowan College at Burlington County.
