Men's Cross Country

Hagerstown, Md. -- The men's cross country team knew they were major underdogs going into the championship meet. They knew they would have to run huge personal best in order to win the championship meet and go to nationals as a team. As a group the men chose to run gutsy and put it all out there on the course in the first mile and half. The knights were within 2 points of Hagerstown at this point with every one racing exactly where they needed to be. As the race went on the fast start caught up to the knights who ended up finishing 3rd place in Region XX behind Hagerstown CC and Carroll CC and 4th place in MD JUCO also finishing behind Howard CC. 24 points was the difference between 1st and 4th in the most competitive MD, Region XX championship on the men's side in at least the last ten years. Liam Mischke led the knights finishing 4th in Region XX and 5th in MD Juco in order to be the only male knight to earn all region and all MD JUCO status. Sophomores Bradley Allen and Charles Avery both were top 15 finishes in Region XX and MD JUCO and James Rudolph and Adonis Alvarez both finished top 15 in Region XX Division 1. Cody Miller also had a strong meet being the only male athlete to run a personal best at the championship meet.

The men's knights team as a whole continues to progress and get faster every year working towards the goal of getting competitive on the national level. Liam Mischke is a promising freshman who broke the school record in the 8k, 5k, and 3k this year and hopes to run even faster in the 8k at nationals. Bradley Allen and Charles whiting also ran top 5 times in school history and Anibal Avila, James Rudolph, and Johan Milele all ran top 10 times in school history in the 8k. The knights should have a large group of returning freshman to be even faster next year including Liam Mischke, Anibal Avila, James Rudolph, Johan Milele, Adonis Alvarez, and Bryce Iaconangelo. Hopefully with the return of redshirt sophomore Garrett Harris, who was the previous record holder in the 8k and currently is the 4k record holder, the knights will have the leadership and front runners to start becoming competitive on the national level. Liam Mischke and Garrett Harris are both high school teammates and should be able to train hard over the summer with the focus of trying to be top 25 finishers in the nation.
