No. 12 Knights Remain Undefeated, Clip Jayhawks 98-63

By Rocco Geppi

Dundalk, Md. -- Trailing at halftime for the first time this season, the Knights opened the second half Saturday on a 15-4 run and outscored the Jayhawks 34-11 in the third quarter in route to a 98-63 win in The Den at CCBC Dundalk.

Patricia Anumgba (Silver Spring, Md.) had a game and career-high 24 points (9-18 shooting), 13 of which came in the second half.

Lyric Swann (Elkridge, Md.) scored 22 points on 10-of-28 shooting, and added eight assists, seven steals and five rebounds.

The Knights (6-0) held a six-point lead after the first frame, but Jamestown (3-5) outscored them 24-14 in the second to take a 38-34 lead into halftime.

Essex shot just 5-23 in the second quarter and 14-52 (27%) overall in the first half.

"The message at halftime was to play ball," said head coach Mike Seney. "In the first half our missed shots caused our energy to go down, which then made us play bad basketball. Making and missing shots should never dictate how hard we play."

CCBC Essex came out swinging after the break, scoring 15 of the second half's first 19 points.

Swann had 11 of her 22 points in the third quarter, shooting 5-of-11 (45.4%) and collected four of her seven steals in the same frame.

The Knights never took their collective feet off the accelerator, ending the game on a 16-4 run.

"In the second half, we still missed some shots we can make," said Seney. "But our energy and our effort made us play good basketball."

Vanessa Woodfolk (Charlottesville, Va.) finished the game with a double-double on 14 points (5-14) and 14 rebounds, 10 of which game on the defensive end. She also had six steals and three blocks.

Kendall Haggerty (Frederick) broke out of an early season slump, finishing with 11 points (4-15) and six rebounds. It was her first double-digit scoring performance in four games.

CCBC Essex's bench play was also a factor, outscoring Jamestown's 20-2.
