No 3. Knights Continue Streak, Receive Citation of Achievement from County Executive Olszewski

Rosedale, Md. - The No. 3 ranked CCBC Essex women's basketball continued its NJCAA Division II record winning streak over the weekend, defeating No. 8 Union County 101-62 on Saturday and Chesapeake College 109-58 yesterday.

Prior to the game, Baltimore County Executive John Olszewski Jr., joined by CCBC President Sandra L. Kurtinitis, presented head coach Mike Seney and captains Kendal Haggerty (Frederick, Md.), Patricia Anumgba (Silver Spring, Md.) and Lyric Swann (Elkridge, Md.) with a special citation of achievement for breaking a record that had stood for 13 years.  

The Knights (25-0) streak now stands at 44 consecutive games.

Against the Owls on Saturday, everyone on the Knights roster scored at least three points.

Anasia Staton (Jersey City, N.J.) and Swann tied for a game-high 23 points each.

During the first quarter, the score stayed relatively close with the Knights leading 29-15 at the end of the frame.

Essex's scoring output began to increase during the second quarter, with the Knights taking a 49-29 lead into the break.

For the last four and a half minutes of the third quarter, Essex only allowed the Owls to score a two points, to make it 80-42 going into the last quarter.

Getting a 40-point lead early in the game helped the Knights continue the average of leading by around 20 points or more for the rest of the game, winning 101-62.

CCBC Essex scored 31 points off 22 Owls' turnovers, while UCC only managed 11 points off 14 Knights turnovers.

Swann led the game in assists with six and tied Anumgba in steals with three.

Staton and Lillian Harris (Westminster, Md.) had two blocks each, accounting for four of the team's six.

Kelly Foster (Rock Hill, SC.) had 10 rebounds, followed by Jaelyn Swann (Elkridge, Md.) with seven and Haggerty with six.

CCBC Essex will look to extend its winning streak to 45 on Wednesday when the welcome Montgomery College to the Wellness and Athletics Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
