Knights Look to Postseason, Still Work to Do

By Austin Johnson

Rosedale, Md.—The regular season has come to an end as the No. 3 ranked CCBC Essex Knights Women's Basketball team heads to the NJCAA Region 20 Division II Women's Basketball Tournament. Given a first-round bye for their #3 ranking, the Knights will begin their postseason journey Friday, March 4th against Montgomery College (MD) at Garrett College. When asked about the regular season and the upcoming postseason Head Coach Mike Seney said, "We are so excited for the post season to finally be here. The 30/30 is amazing but our job is far from finished!"

The regular season was filled with achievements. To start, two Knights players earned individual honors during the season. Both Lyric Swann (Elkridge, MD) and Patricia Anumgba (Silver Spring, MD) earned the NJCAA Division II Women's Basketball Player of the Week and Maryland JUCO Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Month. Anumgba also earned the NJCAA Region 20 Division II Women's Basketball Player of the Month. Wrapping up the awards, Head Coach Mike Seney earned the 2022 Maryland JUCO Coach of the Year.

Along with the individual achievements the Knights continued to break NJCAA Division II Women's Basketball records. The Knights set the record for most points scored in a game with 153 points vs Allegany College of Maryland on December 1st. Following this, the Knights broke the record for consecutive games won with a 114-44 win at Community College of Beaver County on February 6th with 40 consecutive wins, a record that stood for 13 years. The streak was started back in December 2019 and they have since extended that streak to 49 consecutive games. Finishing the regular season with a perfect 30-0 record, the Knights look to carry their regular season momentum into the postseason as they compete for the NJCAA Region 20 Division II Women's Basketball Championship.
