No. 3 Knights Advance to Region Finals

By Rebecca Plantholt

McHenry, Md.— The Knights continue their winning ways as they beat the Montgomery College Raptors 86-69 to advance to the NJCAA Region 20 Championship.

The Knights finished the first quarter 22-17, due in large part to Lyric Swann's seven points and Kelly Foster's six. In the second quarter, the Knights offense was slowed due to the Raptor's defensive pressure, and the Raptor's offense found some traction. Patricia Anumgba scored her first points of the game in this quarter and led the Knights in scoring with 8 points, but the Knights entered into halftime tied at 40 with the Raptors.

The second half was all Knights, outscoring the Raptors in each of the remaining quarters. Jaelyn Swann found her rhythm and scored 14 points for the nights in the third frame. Haggerty, Jaelyn Swann, and Anumgba all finished with six points in the fourth quarter to give the Knights a 17-point victory in the semifinals.

Anumgba led the team in scoring with 21 points, closely followed by Jaelyn Swann who finished with 20 points, 18 of which were from the deep ball.

The Knights return to the hardwood at Garrett College to take on the Garrett Lakers tomorrow afternoon at 4pm for the championship.
