Women's Lacrosse: Knights' Sophomores Go Out on Top

By George Evans

ROSEDALE, Md.
-- The Knights closed out its home schedule last night with a dominating performance from its three sophomores Madison Christian (Severna Park), Caroline Oakey (Mercy) and Hailey Jarrard (Sparrows Point), as they defeated the College of Southern Maryland 17-8.

The win not only pulled the Knights (7-7, 2-5 Maryland JUCO) even in the win-loss column, but it avenged an 11-10 loss to the Hawks on April 5.

On a night known as "Sophomore Day," the three second-year student athletes came to play.

Christian finished the night scoring seven goals, bringing her season totals to 51 goals and four assists. She is also now just seven goals from 100 career tallies.

"It feels good," Christian said regarding her single-season milestone. "I've never really reached an accomplishment like that and I'd rather have fifty goals than to be fifty-years-old at this point. So it's a great achievement."

Oakey scored four goals on the night and assisted on a goal scored by Christian. She finished the 2016 season scoring 21 goals and had three assists.

"Coming out on the field, I had a lot of energy," Oakey said. "I was really excited to play and I also wanted to win it for my team, so we all got pumped and worked together to pull out a win."

Jarrard scored two goals and had two assists. Her 2016 season totals are 11 goals and eight assists.

Freshman Jessica Boothe (Kenwood) scored two goals for the Knights.

Freshmen Hunter Giangrasso (Sparrows Point) and Rachel Rossi (Havre de Grace) both finished the game scoring one goal each.
