Knights Outlast Trojans 3-2 in 10, Face Cougars in Regional Semifinal

ROSEDALE, Md. -- The No. 4 seeded CCBC Essex baseball team Tuesday defeated Allegany College of Maryland 3-2 in 10 innings in the first round of the Region XX Tournament.

Sophomore Zach Walsh (Hereford) delivered the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the 10th inning, scoring freshman Logan Miller (Eastern Tech) to give Essex the walk-off victory.

"Moving on in the [Region XX] tournament was the expectation when we began the season," said head baseball coach Michael Carter. "The next phase is to try to win the tournament."

The Knights (23-17, 15-11) move on to the semifinal round and will play at No. 1 seed Frederick C.C. tomorrow at 1 PM.

For all intents and purposes, the Knights game against the Trojans was a pitchers' duel. Only one hitter between the two teams had multiple hits.

Knights' starter Chase Pepper (Canton) pitched well and went seven innings, giving up two earned runs on six hits. While the freshman right hander had five strikeouts he also surrendered five walks, two of which scored.

Sophomore Thomas Fortman (Digital Harbor) pitched the final two and two thirds for the win. He gave up no runs on one hit and struck out three.
