CCBC Essex Knights splits games at Thomas Nelson

By Russell Hodge

Rosedale, Md.— On Monday, April 11th 2022, the Knights traveled to Thomas Nelson Community College for a double header baseball event to face the Gators.  The Knights would lose the first game 7-6 but win the second 4-0.

The first game started out slow and was tied until the third inning when the Gators took a 3-1 lead that was held until the top of the final seventh inning where the Knights went up 6-5 but lost the lead again and the game ended 6-7 in favor of the Gators.

On offense, the Knights had seven hits as a team and ended up leaving 10 batters on base. Second baseman Waskar Vicente Martinez led the team in hits with two as well as tied leading in RBI's Likeiry Taveras Jimenez.

On the pitching side, Danny Padilla opened the game up for the Knights allowing three runs in three innings pitched. Eric Harrison also pitched three innings and allowed two runs. Reed Adams pitched the final inning that saw the Gators score twice leading to their 7-6 victory.

The second game was much better for the Knights as they won with a commanding shut-out victory score of 4-0.  A great story to note in this one was the brother versus brother matchup as both teams started members of the Daddio family from Richmond, Virginia. The Gators started freshman catcher Jeffrey Daddio while the Knights started freshman catcher Jordan Daddio.

On offense, the Knights had eight hits and left 14 batters on base.  Luis Marrero and Alvin Carela led the team in hits with two a piece while Emmanuel Maldonado led in RBI's with two as well.

Four pitchers all contributed to the Knights shutout.  The game opened up with Todd Murphy pitching the first inning.  After him, the Knights had Joey Galloway, Matt Hite, and Ian Babey all pitching two innings a piece following. Murphy and Hite both allowed zero hits while Galloway and Babey only allowed one hit a piece. Galloway was the Knights only pitcher to allow a walk.

The Knights next game is at Virginia Beach where they are scheduled to face Bryant & Stratton College's Bobcats tomorrow on Tuesday, April 12th 2022.
