CCBC Essex Falls to Chesapeake College After Surrendering Big Sixth Inning in Game 1 of the Doubleheader

Wye Mills, MD — A six-run sixth inning proved to be the difference as Chesapeake College pulled away to defeat CCBC Essex, 11-1, in Game 1 of Monday's doubleheader.

The Skipjacks struck first with an RBI single from Harrington in the bottom of the second.

CCBC Essex tied things up in the third when sophomore Maxwell Urena (Brooklyn, NY / Christ the King) delivered a run-scoring single, evening the score at 1-1.

Chesapeake regained the lead in the fourth on another RBI single by Harrington, going up 2-1 before blowing the game open in the sixth. The Skipjacks sent 10 batters to the plate in the frame, scoring six runs on just two hits. Walks and hit batters haunted the Knights, with runs coming via a walk (Rosanova), a hit-by-pitch (Bott), and RBI efforts from Tolle, Harrington, Elliot, and Bennett.

Freshman Yadier Henriquez Lopez (Harrisburg, PA / Central Dauphin East) got the start for the Knights, tossing five innings and allowing five runs (four earned) on nine hits, while striking out four and walking four.

Chesapeake starter Heiser was in command all afternoon, going six innings and giving up just one unearned run on four hits, while striking out eight and walking none.

Urena led the Knights offensively, going 2-for-3 with the lone RBI. CCBC Essex totaled just four hits in the game.

Harrington powered the Skipjacks with a 2-for-4 performance and three RBIs. Chesapeake had 11 hits total and drew eight walks as a team.

CCBC Essex will look to bounce back and even the season series in Game 2 of the doubleheader.
