CCBC Essex men's lacrosse visited Genesee C.C. on Saturday (Batavia, N.Y.) and came away with a hard fought 12-11 victory.
The Knights carried a 5-3 lead into halftime before falling behind 10-7 in the fourth quarter. Essex rallied by scoring five unanswered goals to take a 12-10 lead and held on for win.
The game marked the third consecutive year that the Knights (2-0, 0-0) and Cougars battled to a one-goal decision, with Essex taking two of three.
Essex was led in the scoring column by freshman midfielder Cole Rainier (The Calverton School) with three goals and three assists. Freshman attackman Will Manganiello (Penncrest High School, Pa.), had two goals and two assists.
Sophomore attackman Cameron Stone (Foothills High School, Calif.) tallied two goals and had an assist, while freshman attackman Brendan Nolan (Fallston) scored two goals with one assist.
Freshman goalie Max Edelmann (Middletown) was stellar in the cage, turning away 11 shots. Sophomore face-off man Jake Brown (John Carroll School) and freshman defensemen Sid Ewell (Carlisle, Pa.) also turned in key performances in the win.
Next up, the Knights play with its first home contest of the season against intra-campus rival CCBC Catonsville. Game time is today at 7 PM.
