No. 3 CCBC Essex Hands Nassau First Loss, Will Face Onondaga in NJCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship Title Game

ROSEDALE, Md. –- The No. 3 seeded Community College of Baltimore County, Essex Knights men's lacrosse team has advanced to the NJCAA Men's Lacrosse Championship title game by virtue of its 17-16 victory against No. 2 Nassau C.C. yesterday in a semifinal match in front of more than 700 spectators at CCBC Essex Stadium.

The championship game is today at CCBC Essex Stadium and begins at 1 p.m.

After handing Nassau its first loss this season, the Knights (15-2) will now face the No. 1 seeded Onondaga C.C. (17-0) and attempt to thwart the Lazers bid for a 105 consecutive victory and a seventh straight title.

Freshman attackman Will Manganiello (Penncrest) led the Knights in the semifinal with a game-high six goals and had one assist. Freshman midfielder Cole Rainier (Calverton School) added three goals in the win over the Lions.

Sunday's championship game will feature two of the nation's best scorers with the Knights' Rainier and Onondaga's Matt Bennett. Rainier leads the NJCAA in assists (42) and is second in points (83), while Bennett is third in the nation with 40 assists and fourth in points (77).

Onondaga advanced to the finals with a 17-6 win over No. 4 Genesee C.C. in the other semifinal on Saturday. Onondaga enters the tournament having won eight of the last nine NJCAA men's lacrosse titles.
