Men's Lacrosse: No. 2 Knights Rout Hawks 27-0

DOVER, Del. -- Beginning a lacrosse season with three straight road games can be a daunting task, but CCBC Essex men's lacrosse showed no signs of letting that get to them on Sunday as they dispatched of Delaware Technical and Community College 27-0.

The Knights (3-0) were relentless, using 15 different goal scorers, with four finishing with five or more points and three with three or more goals.

Four of the team's five goalies - freshmen Shane Silk (Susquehannock), Dylan McCleaft (Penncrest) and Brody Bartel (Hereford), along with sophomore Colin May (Archbishop Curley) - saw action. McCleft recorded four saves and May had one. 

Sophomore Derek Taylor (Perry Hall) and freshman Matt LeCompte (Stephen Decatur) each scored four goals and added two and one assists, respectively.

Brandyn O'Connell (Downington) led the Knights with eight points on two goals and six assists, while freshman Raphael Vargas (Desert Vista) added two goals and three assists.

Sophomore Deangelo Watkins (Decatur) scored the second most goals of the game with three.

"I think what [a game like this] does is it allows us to play the entire roster and reward those guys that may not be starters right now, but work hard everyday," said head coach Shawn Burke.

Sophomore Blake McDonald (Assumption) and freshman Nick Esser (Fallston) chipped in a goal and three assists each. 

Sophomore Dylan Dooley (The Calverton School) and freshmen Matt Smith (Kennett), Wes Rumple (Fallston), Mike Marsden (E. Forsyth), Rashard Holman (Randallstown) and Timothy Roesler (Carlisle) each scored a goal. Smith and Marsden also had an assist apiece. 

Next up for the Knights is the home opener this Saturday against No. 4 Genesee Community College. Game time is scheduled for noon.
