#4 Essex Knights Display Strong Home Performance vs. Carroll Community College

Rosedale, Md.– The CCBC Essex Men's Lacrosse team hosted Carroll Community College on Saturday, April 17th at The Kingdom for a home lacrosse matchup. Going into this competition, the #4 ranked Knights had won their previous two games, outscoring their opponents by a combined 45-16. The Knights continued to stay hot on Saturday by beating Carroll Community College 23-5.

The Knights were able to get out to an early lead in what turned out to be a dominant first period of play. Essex scored an incredible 13 goals in the first, while holding Carroll to just one score. The second quarter was the most competitive quarter between the two sides as the Carroll Community College Lynx made the adjustment defensively and won the period 3-2. At halftime, the scoreboard read 15-4 in favor of the hosting Essex Knights. Coming out of the break, the Knights took control of the game and won the third quarter 7-0, which brought the score to 22-4 Essex. Both teams netted a goal in the final quarter of play which led to the final score of 23-5. 

CCBC Essex managed to put up a remarkable 52 shots in the matchup, including 21 in the first quarter. The Knights held Carroll to just 22 shot attempts on Saturday, which was the main difference in the game. In terms of saves, Carroll saved ten shots on the day while Essex saved nine scoring attempts. The Knights dominated the ground ball game in this matchup with 31 ground balls compared to Caroll's 14 ground balls. Essex once again controlled the faceoffs in this competition winning 19 of 30 from the circle. Both sides had turnovers throughout the game with Essex committing 15 turnovers and Carroll committing 21 turnovers. Finally, the Knights took full advantage of man-up situations, converting on 4 of 6 opportunities. 

Leading the offensive charge for the Knights was Freshman Attackman Max Arnone who provided six points for Essex, with four goals and two assists on the day. Sophomore Attackman Zachary DeToto also produced six points with four assists and two goals. Following their efforts was Sophomore Midfielder James Mooney and Freshman Attacker Owen Fasulka, who both scored three goals of their own. The Knights collectively had 13 assists on the day and Sophomore Attackman Joshua Schelfe had three assists of his own to help lead the Knights in what resulted in a dominant victory for the home side. 

The Knights look to continue their winning ways in their last home matchup Saturday, April 23rd at Essex Stadium vs Mercer County Community College at 12pm. CCBC Essex will also be hosting the 2022 NJCAA Region 20 tournament, which starts Friday April 29th, with Semi-Final games being played at 2pm and 5pm.
