Men's Soccer: Knights Riding Seven-Game Win Streak, Sit Atop Conference

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD -- The Knights have not lost since August 27, having won seven straight after last night's 4-3 victory at Anne Arundel, and sit at 8-1 and 6-0 in the Maryland JUCO Athletic Conference, which puts them in first place.

CCBC Essex trailed midway through the first half after a Ryan Gruss goal in the 21st minute put the Riverhawks on the board and ahead.

Less than five minutes later, freshman Varmah Siryon (Dundalk) tied the game when his shot deflected off a Riverhawk and into the goal.

Freshman, and cousin of Siryon, Clement Blamo Jr. (Dundalk) scored two minutes later on a rebound and the Knights took a 2-1 lead into the break.

The Riverhawks (4-5, 4-3 Maryland JUCO) scored in the 56th minute to tie the game at two, but freshman Edwin Navas (Reading) scored at 68:42 to give the Knights a 3-2 lead.

It remained a one-goal game until the 86th minute.

Zachary Roberts found the back of the net on an assist from Noah Beall and tied it with 4:16 remaining.

With 1:29 left in regulation, Blamo set up cousin Siryon who buried the game-winner, preserving the Knights perfect conference record.

Knights Defeat Jersey Blues

On Sunday, September 24, the Knights scored three goals in the final 22 minutes to defeat Brookdale Community College 3-0 at home on an unseasonably hot and humid day at CCBC Essex Stadium.

The Jersey Blues played the entire game with eight men in the box, preventing the Knights from scoring early.

In the 69th minute, freshman Jake Dengler (John Carroll School) finally broke through to put the Knights on the board.

Siryon and Blamo added goals in the 73rd and 83rd minutes of play, respectively.

Freshman Dylan Guarino (Kenmore East) saved the only shot Brookdale put on goal.

Hawks Play Tough, Not Tough Enough

Last Friday night, freshman Seth Walter (C. Milton Wright) scored in the 14th minute to give the Knights 1-0 lead.

But Hagerstown Community College played tough following the early goal and trailed by the same margin at halftime.

In the 75th minute, the Knights finally broke through for another goal when sophomore Trent Hofmeister (Fallston) beat Hawks goalie Edwardo Araujo.

Freshman Hunter Alchin (Archbishop Spaulding) - who scored 14 goals for the Knights men's lacrosse team in the spring - added his first collegiate soccer goal in the 79th minute to cap the scoring.
