Knights Men's Soccer Prepares for Skipjacks After Season-Opening 7-0 win vs. Catamounts

Rosedale, Md. -- The much anticipated return to the pitch for the nine-time defending Region 20 champion and reigning national runner-up Knights concluded last Thursday with a 7-0 home victory over Potomac State.

Andy Portillo (Laurel) and Michael Adekanmbi (Bowie) led the way with two goals each.

Henry Ortiz (Mt. Airy, Md.), Takeroh Murakawa (Kobe, Japan) and Samuel Sesay (Bowie) had one goal apiece.

Ortiz opened the scoring at 18:10 with a brilliant header off a beautiful pass from Sesay from about 25 yards out.

Less than two minutes later, Portillo sent a left-footed shot passed the Catamounts keeper from 20 yards away to give the Knights a 2-0 lead.

Kota Tsuchisawa (Yaita, Japan) scored in the 35th minute of play to make it 3-0 and then Adekanmbi added his first in the 37th minute.

Portillo scored his second at 39:45 on a laser of a shot from about 30 yards out to make it 5-0.

Murakawa and Adekanmbi added goals in the 46th and 47th minutes of play, respectively, to cap the scoring. Sam Diaz (DuVal) assisted on both goals.

The Knights now set their sights on the Skipjacks of Chesapeake, as they look to start 2-0 in Region 20 play.

Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Chesapeake.
