Women's Basketball: Knights Take Two in N.Y.C.

New York -- The Knights visited New York's Times Square last Friday night prior to playing in the Monroe Thanksgiving Classic. On Saturday and Sunday, they dropped the ball on two NJCAA Division I Region XV teams to improve to 7-1 and earn a No. 10 ranking in this week's NJCAA Division II women's basketball poll. 

CCBC Essex took on ASA Brooklyn on day one of the classic. The Knights jumped out to a quick 35-10 lead after the first quarter in route to an 87-57 victory. 

Freshman Trinity Horton (Chesapeake-Baltimore County) led the Knights with 21 points in 21 minutes off the bench. She hit 6-9 shots from the field - including going 4-4 from behind the arc - and finished one rebound shy of a double-double. 

Rhode Island University transfer Kasey Gagan had 20 points (6-14), was 7-8 at the free throw line and added four steals.

Mya Moye - Florida A&M University transfer - added 15 points on 5-13 shooting and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe. She also had eight assists.

The Knights dominated the turnover battle, forcing ASA into 33 miscues, while only committing 15.

Essex's bench production was also outstanding, outscoring the Avengers 42-10. 

On Sunday, the Knights took on host Monroe and the game began as a close one. 

CCBC Essex took a one-point lead into the break before running away and outscoring the Mustangs 45-31 in the second half to grab an 84-69 win.

Five Knights - four of five starters - finished with 10 points or more.

Moye shot 7-16 overall and 4-6 on three-pointers to lead the Knights with 23 points. Her 10 assists earned her a double-double and she added five boards. 

Gagan finished with 17 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals.

Aislinn Flynn (Towson University transfer) finished with a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds. She added three blocks and three steals. 

Logan Handy (Chester Charter Academy) had 13 points (6-13) and four boards.

The Knights bench was silent except for Lock Haven University transfer Rayah Fink. She accounted for all 11 of the bench points, shooting 4-5, with six rebounds and three blocks in just 19 minutes played.
