CCBC Essex (27-2) now sets its sights on the Region XX Division II Tournament as the No. 1 seed.

The first round begins Thursday at Howard Community College, where the Knights will face No. 8 Potomac State at 1 p.m.

"I'm really thrilled about all that we accomplished in the regular season," head coach Mike Seney said. "Winning 27 games any year is amazing, but to do that and also win the [conference and region] after a 15-year hiatus is special."

Six Knights scored in double digits against Hagerstown, including all five starters.

Freshman Kendal Haggerty (Urbana) led the Knights with 15 points on 5-of-12 shooting - all from behind the arc. She also had seven rebounds, five assists and two steals.

Essex was relentless from three-point land, hoisting up 48 attempts and connecting on 17 (35.4%). They currently lead NJCAA Division II in made three pointers with 364.

Sophomores Kasey Gagan (St. Raphael Academy) and Mya Moye (Arcadia) finished with 14 points each.

Gagan shot 5-of-12 from the field and was 4-for-10 from behind the arc. She added to her Region XX-leading steal total with five thefts and also had six assists and five boards.

The University of Rhode Island transfer now has 129 steals this season, good enough to lead the conference and region and place fourth in the nation.

Moye's output was on 5-of-7 shooting, as she finished in double digits for the 28th time in 29 games this season. She finished with three rebounds, two assists and two steals in just 15 minutes played.

Freshman Trinity Horton (Chesapeake-Baltimore County) and sophomore Rayah Fink (Dover) round out the starters, as they had 12 points apiece.

Horton finished with 12 rebounds to pick up her first collegiate double-double. She also had six assists, a block and a steal.

Fink shot 5-of-11 and hit on 2-of-4 three-point attempts. The Dover, Pa. native also had six boards, two assists and a steal.

Freshman Maciyah Washington (Bowie) came off the bench to score 11 points (3-7) and sophomore Aislinn Flynn (Long Island Lutheran) had eight points, 10 rebounds and three blocks.

Freshman Daysha Reid (Thomas Johnson) had five points, but really shinned on the boards, finishing with a game-high 14 rebounds in only 16 minutes.

Seney also extended his winning streak as a head coach against Maryland Juco opponents to 97.

Region XX Division II Tournament

The Knights are in search of CCBC Essex's first women's basketball regional title since the 1977-78 season.

"Our goal has been to win the region and make it to the national tournament in Michigan," Seney said. "So even though we are excited about our season to date, we still have more work to do."

Essex faced the Potomac State on December 7, defeating the Catamounts 100-71.

Potomac State finished the season 10-9 overall and 5-7 in Region XX Division II play. They are just 2-4 in their last six games.
