Women's Basketball: No. 5 Knights Streak Hits 37 with 104-55 win Over Owls
Largo, Md. -- The No. 5 ranked Knights win streak reached 37 on Friday night - just two wins shy of tying the NJCAA Division II record - with a 104-55 win over Division III No. 11 Prince George's Community College.
Patricia Anumgba (Silver Spring, Md.) led all scorers with 31 points (11-21, 52.3%) and had a game-high five steals.
Lyric Swann (Elkridge, Md.) was second with 23 points (9-23, 3-9 three pointers) and added seven rebounds.
Kelly Foster (Rock Hill, S.C.) also scored in double digits, finishing with 13 points. She hit both of her three-points attempts and was nearly perfect from the field, going 5-6.
CCBC Essex (18-0) left little doubt early on as to how this one would end, outscoring the Owls 30-13 in the opening frame.
The second quarter was a bit more contested, however, Essex took a 47-26 lead into halftime.
Vanessa Woodfolk (Charlottesville, Va.) grabbed seven of her team-high 10 rebounds in the first half.
Anasia Staton (Jersey City, N.J.) scored seven points and was second on the Knights with seven rebounds.
The Knights did not let off the accelerator in the second half, scoring 57 points in route to a 49-point victory.
It was the Essex defense that once again set the tone, scoring 37 points off 14 Owls' turnovers.
The Knights bench was also huge, outscoring Prince George's 30-2.
Next up for the Knights is a road game at Potomac State this Friday. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
