Knights blow out the Skipjacks out of the water
Written by: Drew Bellinger
Essex, Md—The Knights handle business on the road. After a third consecutive win the Knights move to 3-0 and remain undefeated on the season.
The Knights put together a clinical performance in their 110-53 win against the Skipjacks. The offense was highly productive and did a great job spreading the ball around to create different opportunities.
They came out of the gates on fire, scoring 17 unanswered points before Chesapeake would find their first points off a made three-point shot. Essex nearly doubled the Skipjacks points in every quarter and did it through a variety of ways. The Knights scoring came from all over the court leaving no room for Skipjack error defensively.
With 8:10 left to play in the second period, Forward Kwashanti Holmes drove to the basket where Guard Paige Smith would accompany her. Smith stole the rebound from a Skipjack player and quickly dished it off to Forward Adela Cecunjanin who would drain the easy layup.
A complete team play that summarized the performance all together.
The difference makers in this game? The turnover battle, rebounds, fouls and skilled depth, aspects that were all won by the Knights. Chesapeake College had 49 total turnovers, 40 more than the Knights.
Knights Forward Michaela Guest and Guard Antionique Auston were rebounding machines. The two combined for a total of 25 rebounds. The Skipjacks had a total of 36. Guest would also go on to put up 17 points. She has proven to be a massive part of this Knights team.
For the most part, the Knights stayed out of foul trouble. When fouled, however, they took advantage of their free throw opportunities shooting nearly 80% at the line.
The Knights bench contributed heavily. Another outstanding performance from Guard Reghan Robinson, who lead the team with 19 points, propelled the Knights to another victory.
Raritan Valley Community College is the next opponent for the Knights. They'll travel to take on the Golden Lions on Tuesday in New Jersey.
