Knights Dominate in 64-Point Win over Allegany College of Maryland

The CCBC Essex Knights Women's Basketball team finds themselves in the win column once again after a dominant 90-26 win over the Allegany College of Maryland Trojans. The win brings the Knights Record on the season to 22-1.

Leading the charge for the Knights was Cierra McGinlay, who scored a game-high 28 points, knocking down eight threes. Anylah Davis & Kwashanti Holmes were also key contributors, adding 15 and 12 points. That duo also wreaked havoc on the defensive end, with A. Davis recording five steals for the game, and Holmes nearly notching a triple double with nine steals and eight rebounds.

The first quarter was a defensive battle, with both teams shooting a mere 25% from the field. The second quarter saw the Knights suffocating defense turn into more productive offense, as they outscored the Trojans 6-22 in the quarter. The Knights recorded 10 steals in the quarter, which propelled them to a 35-13 lead at half.

Entering the third quarter, the Knights were looking to build upon the offensive production from the second, and they did just that. McGnlay exploded for 14 points in just six minutes. She shot 4-6 from 3, and 5-7 overall. The Knights as a team had a very efficient quarter, shooting 15-22 and scoring 34 points. The defense matched the offense and held the Trojans to under 10 points for the third quarter in a row.

The fourth saw the same defensive effort from the Knights, as Holmes and A. Davis combined for five steals. A. Davis was the leading scorer for the Knights that quarter, scoring nine points on 4-4 shooting.  The Knights were able to outscore the Trojans 21-5 to cap off the 90-26 victory.

As the season winds down, the Knights offense is beginning to click at the right time with Region 20 tournament around the corner, but the team understands the importance of not skipping steps. "We still have some work to do," said head coach Mike Seney. "I want to make sure we're ready both mentally and physically". Until then, the regular season gauntlet continues Wednesday Feb 19th at WVU Potomac State College. Tip off is set for 6:00 PM
