Women's Soccer: Knights Bounce Hawks, Set to Meet Dragons in Region Final

Dundalk, Md. -- It took the Knights just 4:32 to register their first goal yesterday against Southern Maryland in route to a 10-0 victory in a Region 20 Tournament Semifinal game at the CCBC Dundalk Turf Stadium.

The Knights have now won 10 straight against the Hawks, including 5-1 in the region semifinals since 2013.

CCBC Essex will now look to avenge its only blemish of the season tomorrow, as they meet Howard in the regional championship. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m.

It was Kara Dietrich (Perry Hall, Md.) who opened the scoring in the fifth-minute with her 19th goal of the season.

She would finish the game with four goals and one assist. Dietrich now has 22 tallies this season, which ranks her #1 in the NJCAA across all divisions.

The Knights (7-1) took a 6-0 lead into halftime.

Sam Dorr (Linthicum, Md.) scored a pair and Sam Wilson (Middle River, Md.) her second of the season, in the first half.

Dorr has scored three goals and added an assist in the last two games.

Wilson, who's been a part of the Knights solid back line, added a second half goal.

In all, the Knights had five different goal scorers, as Ryleigh Fachler (Perry Hall, Md.) and Caroline Warns (Perry Hall, Md.) also got in on the action.

The Essex defense continued to play strong, allowing just four shots overall.

Jennifer Holland (Nottingham, Md.) continued to play well between the pipes, saving all three shots on goal.

The Knights will travel tomorrow to Howard and look to even the score with the Dragons, who won 2-1 on April 27 in the teams' last meeting.

In that game, Howard scored the game's first goal in the 50th minute and took a 2-0 lead in the 86th.

Essex's Fachler scored on a crossbar assist from Dietrich in the 89th minute, but the Knights ran out of time before they could score the equalizer.

"We're looking forward to the match up," said Knights head coach Joe Fiedler on meeting Howard again. "We need to match the intensity of our opponent and make smart choices during the game. Tackling will play a pivotal role in the match up."
