By Thad Pedzig and Emily Vetri

Rosedale, Md. -- CCBC Essex Women's Soccer has started with at least three straight wins for the second season, most recently dispatching Mercer County last Saturday 6-2 at home.

The Knights (3-0) hit the road for the first time tomorrow for an Interstate 95 battle against the Harford Fighting Owls. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm.

CCBC Essex has opened the season in stellar fashion, outsourcing its opponents 19-4, which has garnered national attention as they jumped six spots to No. 14 in the NJCAA Women's Soccer Division II Poll released yesterday.

First year head coach Steve King has five returners this year, including four starters, in Kara Dietrich, Kalyn LaPointe, Sam Dorr, Samantha Hosier and Zaida Holloway.

The Knights leading goal scorer is Dietrich. She has 13 goals this fall and is sitting on 91 for her career in just 39 games played.

Holloway and Dorr both had five goals in the 2021 spring season and have combined for three tallies thus far this fall.

Goalkeeper Sydney Baker has only allowed four goals, making nine saves so far this season. She owns a 69.2 save percentage and 1.33 goals against average.

In total, the Knights are averaging 6.33 goals and 22 shots per game.

Harford opened its season with two wins over Hagerstown, out-scoring the Hawks 7-2 in the process.

This is the first season back for Fighting Owls women's soccer since 2018.

In 2018, they went 14-3 and won the NJCAA Region 20 Championship.

In 2017, Harford won the Region 20 Championship and NJCAA District Championship, earning a bid to the National Tournament, where they lost to #2 Tyler 2-1 in overtime.

Harford has won seven Region 20 Championships in the last ten seasons.

Since 2012 the Fighting Owls are 10-1 against the Knights, meeting each other multiple times in the Region 20 Final.

The Knights last win against Harford came in 2012 when they competed for the NJCAA Region 20 title. Essex won in penalty kicks to advance to the District Tournament.
